Miss Marple is, for once, on holiday, far away from her home village of St Mary Mead. She is enjoying sun and relaxation at the Golden Palm Hotel on the Island of St Honoré in the Carribbean. She is listening, with only half an ear, to fellow guest, Major Palgrave, telling a story about – what was it? The next day, Palgrave is dead.
