‘You do see, don’t you, that she’s got to be killed?’ These are the opening words of this novel – words that Hercule Poirot overhears on his first night in Jerusalem. ‘Civilization is all wrong .. But for civilization there wouldn’t be a Mrs Boynton! In savage tribes they’d probably have killed and eaten her years ago’. So muses the young Dr Sarah King. And then Mrs Boynton is found murdered.
